SNL's Obama Kisses Justin Bieber to Pump Health Care

Sketch comedy or campaign commercial?

Saturday Night Live's cold open made a mockery of President Obama's social media deluge of late to pump his agenda to the youth of America. However, the SNL sketch offered a few suggestions of untapped viral possibilities in hopes of helping the president bolster support for Obamacare.

The White House's new social media expert, "Maura," had Obama pose in Pharrell's hat (from the Grammys) and "vaping" on an e-cigarette, all while holding a HealthCare.gov sign. Later, it was pictures with Kim Kardashian, a member of One Direction, BatKid and a quick dance with Pope Francis.

A hesitant Obama said, "Isn't it a little silly?" His aide replied:

Mr. President, I'll tell you what's silly -- right now there's a pregnant woman in Denver who has no health insurance. THAT is silly.

But the coup de grâce was having Obama and Justin Bieber kiss.

It seems there is no gimmick left untouched by the president who is so desperate for support -- and SNL capitalized on that for humor in their sketch. Yet at the same time, it seemed to be just another pop-culture commercial in support of HealthCare.gov.
