AP Poll: Support for Obamacare Sinks to New Low

Only 26% of Americans now support the ACA.

Despite the Obama administration’s full court press to promote the healthcare law—an effort that has featured the president frantically pitching the law in increasingly unpresidential places—Obamacare’s number s continue to do what they have done since the launch of the federal exchange in October, trend downward. A new Associated Press-GfK survey found that the Affordable Care Act has reached an all new low: only 26% of Americans now support Obamacare.

Americans’ overall impression of the rollout of Obamacare has improved slightly, though it remains overwhelmingly negative with only 26% having a favorable impression (up from 12% in December). The poll suggests that this negative perception in part stems from problems experienced during enrollment. Of those polled that had someone in their household attempt to enroll, 59% said they had experienced problems.

Despite the dismal numbers, however, only 13% believe the law will be completely repealed, 30% expecting extensive changes on the horizon, while 42% believe the law will only undergo minor adjustments.

As The Washington Times highlights, the AP poll was taken before the administration announced Thursday that they had supposedly reached the recently downgraded 6 million goal (recently reduced from the original 7 million). Though many analysts scoff at the administration's enrollment figures, as they conflate Obamacare and Medicaid enrollment and fail to account for those who have signed up but have yet to pay a premium, the announcement that the administration reached its revised goal might have some positive impact on public perception.
