The first ever marijuana vending machine, the “ZAZZ,” will makes its debut Friday in Eagle-View, Colorado, allowing Americans to now purchase pot with just a swipe of their cards.
United Press International (UPI) reports that the ZAZZ machine, produced by American Green, was displayed to the public Friday at a BBQ restaurant in Avon and the marijuana dispensary Herbal Elements will be the first company in America to feature the ZAZZ.
The dispensary’s owner, Greg Honan, said the machine is a way of cutting out the middle man and protecting inventory from theft by "patients" or employees:
We’re looking forward to using the ZAZZ machine to easily track all this inventory … we’re gonna eliminate the middle man. It’ll go straight from the budtender right into our machine. There’s no room for theft by patients, employees … there’s no way to lose track of the inventory.
The ZAZZ requires the user’s driver’s license to confirm age prior to payment and contains multiple cameras and biometric technology to ensure the identity of the purchaser. Stephen Shearin, owner of American Green, explains:
They would swipe their driver's license at which point multiple cameras would allow us to use some advanced biometrics to make absolutely certain that the person who swiped the card is the owner of that card.
