In an interview with CBS's Major Garrett, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney clamed this was the most transparent administration in history, but that transparency creates "headaches for us, and ridiculous stories on Fox News and elsewhere." That claim raised the ire of FNC's Greta Van Susteren, who responded on her blog, "I love to get credit for identifying a falsehood but we are not the only ones. I also know the White House likes to blame Fox News for all their problems, but it is NOT just Fox New that outs the White House about its false claim of transparency."
Major Garrett's interview with Carney was for the George Washington University's School of Media and Public Affairs. When Garrett asked the Press Secretary about transparency, Carney opined:
And I think it's fair to say that the release of that information [the White House visitor logs] has made this White House far more transparent than any other [administration]. That doesn't mean it's perfectly transparent. It creates headaches for us, and ridiculous stories on Fox News and elsewhere about, for example, saying Hillary Clinton was only in the White House five times, while Secretary so-and-so was there this many times. People like Hillary Clinton, and most cabinet secretaries literally get waved in by the Secret Service. They're not entered in the logs. Second, Hillary Clinton, as her successor is, was in the White House every week. So it leads to some challenges. The records weren't designed to be a complete picture because of the way that individuals who are part of the administration enter the White House. But they provide a lot more information about who visits the White House than has ever been provided before.
That commentary did not sit well with Van Susteren, who took to her Gretawire blog, and using mostly bold text (as seen below) and in bright red and blue letters posted:
Just a short time ago, Jay Carney said this:
Carney: there’s never been a more transparent admin, …….creates headaches for us, ridiculous stories on Fox News …..
‘Never been a more transparent administration?’
OOPS! I love to get credit for identifying a falsehood but we are not the only ones. I also know the White House likes to blame Fox News for all their problems, but it is NOT just Fox New that outs the White House about its false claim of transparency.
The New York Times and the Associated Press, both gold standards in the eyes of many, have been right there with Fox News about the Obama Administration transparency problem (lie?)
Apparently Jay Carney “forgot” to include Jill Abramson, Executive Editor of the New York Times:
Jill Abramson: ‘This is the most secretive White House I have ever dealt with’ CLICK HERE
And apparently Carney also forgot to mention the Associated Press:
“The Associated Press has stepped up its attack on White House efforts to block coverage of events involving President Obama, warning that once access is cut, “we’ll never get it back.”
In the latest media charge that the White House has reneged on promises to be “transparent,” two of AP’s White House staff told a convention in Denver this week that the president’s team often bars coverage of Obama events because they are “hypersensitive” about his image…” CLICK HERE
