A&E Drops 22 Percent in Target Demo After Robertson Suspension

During the week of December 16-22, A&E dropped 13 percent of its viewership over the year before, including a 22 percent drop among adults aged 25-54 and an 18 percent drop among the coveted 18-49 age range.

A&E has taken a major ratings hit thanks to the fallout from the Duck Dynasty Phil Robertson indefinite suspension, according to Nielsen ratings. A&E announced it had suspended Robertson on Wednesday, December 18; since then, the Nielsen same-day ratings system has shown a massive drop in viewers. During the week of December 16-22, A&E dropped 13 percent of its viewership over the year before, including a 22 percent drop among adults aged 25-54 and an 18 percent drop among the coveted 18-49 age range.

In the aftermath of Robertson’s suspension, well over 1.7 million Americans vowed to boycott A&E until Robertson was reinstated. Duck Dynasty is the highest-rated show on A&E, with its season 4 opening episode grabbing 11.8 million viewers and averaging 9.13 million viewers over the course of the season.

A&E timed Robertson’s suspension to coincide with the non-filming season for Duck Dynasty. The new season is set to premiere in January, and Robertson will be in the episodes.
