On Friday night on Bill Maher’s Real Time (HBO), Al Sharpton and Michael Moore suggested that radical Christianity posed as much of a threat to the world as radical Islam. After Maher stated that radical Islam was full of pernicious beliefs, Sharpton stated, “you have to also accept that they're zealots, and there’s schizophrenia in every religion.” When Maher protested that not every religion was the same way, Sharpton said, “You had Christian Klansmen who were Christian, KKK members, who burned crosses. What’s more schizo than that?”
Maher said, “Do they have a whole farm system? Do they have websites? Show me the country that has the Christian fundamentalist training camp where they’re on the monkey bars…one is herpes and one is cancer.” To which Michael Moore responded, “I can guarantee you that there are Christians out there tonight who want to kill you and me.” Maher responded, “Yeah, but they don’t.”
Maher said, “We have to have special extra security here. We don’t have to have special security here when there are Christians who are pissed off.” Sharpton then said, “Is that religion or is that something else? A lot of that is the culture, a lot of that is where you are. You have all kinds of Muslims that have denounced some of the terrorism. I don’t think that’s Islam, I think that’s the distorted use of some, just as they are in any other religion.”
Moore, trying to cast aspersions on Christianity, said, “Better to cast the log out of your own eye before trying to take the speck out of somebody else’s eye.” Maher responded, “A log is not a speck.”
Sharpton said, “There are a lot more Muslim countries in the world than Pakistan that are not behaving that same way.”
