In the wake of Donald Trump's election victory, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel hastened to reassure illegal aliens that his city would "always be a sanctuary city" and that anyone who feared being deported under a Trump administration would be "safe" and "supported" in his city.
"Let me be clear about what Chicago is," he said at a press conference Monday. "It always will be a sanctuary city. To all those who are, after Tuesday's election, very nervous... you are safe in Chicago. You are secure in Chicago. And you are supported in Chicago."
Unless, of course, they get murdered or wounded while seeking sanctuary there. Last weekend, strictly gun-controlled Chicago witnessed 5 killed and 32 wounded by gunfire.
Homicides in the city are up by 54 percent compared to the same period in 2015, and shootings are also up 46 percent, according to the Washington Examiner. Chicago has seen more than 675 recorded homicides this year. At this pace the city could surpass 70 homicides before the end of 2016 for the first time since 1998.
That's a hell of a sanctuary city.
