It’s only been a week since Halloween when Chicago experienced its deadliest weekend in over three years and already the city has broken another record. Ten homicides were reported between Friday and Sunday and like the weekend before, more than 50 people were shot across the city. With over 660 dead so far this year, Chicago now boasts 1,000 more shootings than this same time last year.
According to the Chicago Tribune, five people were shot in a single attack early on Saturday morning. This incident involved two men, two women, and a 17-year-old boy. Investigators said the victims would provide no details about the shooting.
Two men, ages 19 and 20, were shot early Sunday morning. The younger man died at the hospital after initially being listed in good condition. Coincidentally, this shooting occurred in the same block where a 19-year-old was killed last weekend.
One man was stabbed to death after getting into a fight. But the most horrible report was a 78-year-old man who was pulled out of his car and shot in the head. Amazingly, the Tribune reported that the man was in serious condition.
Though it’s not a part of the numbers listed above, a 25-year-old suspect was also shot to death by Chicago police after committing a road-rage incident.
But not to worry, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is on the case ensuring his city remains a liberal utopia.
