It's understandable why so many young people shape their views based on the whims of Jon Stewart. No Jungian archetype resonates in the American psyche better than the classic "trickster," and Jon Stewart nails it. Whenever grilled on the influence of his bias with the American public, he continuously side-steps the issue with the cliched "I'm just a comedian" excuse. Yet, whenever hot button issues like abortion, gay marriage, or a Presidential election are on the chopping block, Stewart looks those cameras dead in the eye with a face only Walter Cronkite could replicate.

Take away the laugh track, and his show amounts to little more than witty cheap shots and propaganda as exemplified by his latest hit on Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) Thursday night.

Stewart sets up his bit with a clip of Blackburn addressing HHS Sec. Kathleen Sebelius during the congressional hearing earlier this week.

Rep. Blackburn:

I will remind you, some people like to drive a Ford, not a Ferrari, and some people like to drink out of a red solo cup and not a crystal stem. You’re taking away their choice.

Stewart cut the clip mid-way, then put on his mock Tennessee accent to rebuke Blackburn.

I believe in choice, except in marriage and reproductive rights, but actually you know, now that I think about it, hold on. Let me just -- really, I actually only believe in cup or car choice, that's it. It is just those two.

Of course, what Jon Stewart actually means by 'reproductive rights' is abortion, but it makes one funny joke, doesn't it? He then hit Rep. Blackburn with a fairly illusory grievance. Apparently, Blackburn didn't sit through the hearing long enough, as evidenced by the cleverly edited clip showing her exit the room mid-way for an interview on Fox Business Network.

Next time, he'll have a clip where the Blackburn stays for all three-hours accompanied by a commentary on how wasteful congressional leaders are with their time, but such is the nature of a trickster.

Sure, they entertain, but are they trustworthy?
