After the first two Republican Presidential debates last week, Independent Socialist turned Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders retorted that the GOP rank-and-file were out of touch with middle-American concerns. Sanders posted on Facebook:

The Republican debate is over. Not one word about income and wealth inequality, climate change, Citizens United or student debt. That's why the Republicans are so out of touch with the American people. What I heard was more tax breaks for the rich, more people losing health insurance and more talk about war. This is not what we need.

Hillary Clinton, who is now falling behind Sanders in New Hampshire, attacked Governor Scott Walker in the Granite State on the student loan issue, which Republicans purportedly have ignored:

Not one word from the other side. And you take somebody like Governor Walker of Wisconsin, who seems to be delighting in slashing the investment in higher education in his state; in making it more difficult for students to get scholarships or to pay off their debt; eliminating the opportunities for young people who are doctors or dentists to actually work in underserved areas in return for having their debt relieved; ending scholarships for poor kids; and most surprisingly to me, rejecting legislation that would have made it tax-deductible for you on your income tax to deduct the amount of your loan payment.
