Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has once again promised to filibuster President Trump's nominee to SCOTUS after carefully watching Judge Neil Gorsuch throughout the confirmation hearings.
Even though Schumer previously vowed to filibuster any of Trump's SCOTUS nominees, he now attempts to play it off as having some kind of change of heart to protect Americans from the ogre that is Gorsuch.
"After careful deliberation, I have concluded that I cannot support Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court," said Schumer, citing his “lack of candor and desire to answer” questions before the committee.
To break a filibuster, the senate will have to "earn 60 votes for confirmation," says Schumer. It takes only a 51 majority without a filibuster, which could also be broken if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell evoked the "nuclear option."
From Breitbart:
This means a filibuster. Under Senate Rule 22, for any question involving debate, if senators wish to continue speaking, it takes a three-fifths vote of the full Senate (60 out of 100) to invoke a motion for cloture, which limits debate to no more than 30 additional hours, after which a final vote must be held. When senators insist on continuing debate until cloture shuts them down, it’s called a filibuster.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote Gorsuch out of committee on April 3.
