Ryan Challenges Pelosi: Dems Have ‘Lost the Support of Middle America

“Right now, our party is in denial of what happened last Tuesday.”

The battle for taking the post as House minority leader is heating up as Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) continues to rebuke the leadership of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Appearing on MSNBC on Monday, Ryan lamented the fact that Democrats now have the lowest number of elected officials, state or federal, since the Civil War and he solidly placed the blame on current leadership.

Ryan also noted that not since 1929 have Democrats held fewer members in Congress and stated that his party is in “denial” and is in desperate need of “some new energy, some new faces” to win back what the party has lost:

“Right now, our party is in denial of what happened last Tuesday.”

Ryan said the numbers are so bad, “We’re at the point now where we are not even a national party at this point.”

“We have some support on the coast, but we lost the support of Middle America,” he added.

And because most of “fly over country” has been ignored by Democrats for so long, Ryan believes he can build a bridge to bring some of them back:

“I think I can be that strong leader to take us into the majority because I can go into any congressional district in the entire country and persuade voters to come our way and help define that national message.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Ryan got the message sent on November 8th either: America wants a small government and wants the political establishment “drained” and to reverse the damage of the previous eight years under Democratic leadership. "We the People" don't seem to be all-in for the Democratic Party platform, but thanks for playing.
