A mattress store in Texas should be ashamed of itself. The company used freedom of speech to be really stupid and create a tasteless commercial that mocked the 9/11 terrorist attack. Now it’s our turn to use freedom of speech to boo and hiss.
Miracle Mattress in San Antonio scheduled a “Twin Towers” sale in time for the 9/11 memorial weekend. The gimmick is that all mattress sizes are on sale for a twin price. To advertise this sales spectacular, a 21-second spot was created with employees giving the pitch in front of two towers of twin mattresses stacked behind them. Get it?
But it gets worse. Two employees eventually crash into the towers, knocking them over. The spokeswoman grabs her chest, screams, “Oh, my God!” and wryly adds, “We will never forget.” Full stop.
Gross.
The owner of the store, Mike Bonanno, issued an apology for the “unauthorized” ad after his Facebook page was inundated with complaints:
New comments on the store's page are questioning if the woman who appeared in the ad is Bonanno’s daughter, whose Facebook account reads Cherise Bonanno.
TruthRevolt reported on Thursday that a Walmart in Florida pulled down a 9/11 display after offended customers complained they were cashing in on the tragedy. Cases of Coke products were stacked to form the New York City skyline pre-September 11, 2001 against a backdrop of the American flag. Those not offended by the display noted that it was set up to look like a memorial and nothing more. That’s clearly not the case with Miracle Mattress’s dreadful decision.
