"The Lewinsky affair . . .Is Bubba about to blubber?" According to Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun-Times the word on the street is that former president Bill Clinton may make a public apology to Monica Lewinsky for the hardships she endured since their sex scandal broke a decade and half ago. In the recent article appearing in Vanity Fair magazine, Lewinsky spoke about how the affair changed her life:

Maintaining that her affair with Clinton was one between two consenting adults, Lewinsky writes that it was the public humiliation she suffered in the wake of the scandal that permanently altered the direction of her life: “Sure, my boss took advantage of me, but I will always remain firm on this point: it was a consensual relationship. Any 'abuse' came in the aftermath, when I was made a scapegoat in order to protect his powerful position. ... The Clinton administration, the special prosecutor’s minions, the political operatives on both sides of the aisle, and the media were able to brand me. And that brand stuck, in part because it was imbued with power.”

According to Sneed, an award-winning reporting who as worked at Chicago papers for almost 40 years, the reason for the apology would be purely political:

• The rationale? To fend off critics of his wife Hillary, who blame her for protecting a powerful husband who is a sexual predator. Hillary Clinton is eyeing a 2016 presidential bid.
• The big question: Will Bill “I love an audience” Clinton choose to apologize to Lewinsky and his wife for the mess he placed in their lives — and appeal for forgiveness — in order to put the past behind him before his first grandchild is born ... and reap a lotta' love for being a penitent?
