Predictably, Senator Chuck Schumer has completely flip-flopped on his desire to "pause" the Syrian refugee program, saying they pose no reasonable threat.
Speaking Thursday, just one day after being briefed by the Obama administration, Schumer stated that he fully supports the refugee settlement program, saying the evidence shows they don't pose a credible threat.
"We had a very good briefing," Schumer told reporters Thursday. "What they showed us is this: There are about 2,000 refugees who have come here from Syria over the last four years. None have been arrested or deported for terrorism. None."
Rather than stop the resettlement program, Schumer and Senate Democrats suggested congress focus on reforms to the visa waiver program allowing foreigners to travel here visa-free, and barring those on the FBI’s terrorist watch list from purchasing or owning firearms.
