It happens every time the health care debate comes up. Someone invariably accuses conservatives of being insensitive to the pain that exists in the world. They insinuate conservatives are cold-hearted people who simply don't care about the plights of others, about the illnesses that afflict the less fortunate. The next time that happens, remember this:
In Illinois, liberal protesters laughed and said "ugh" when a Republican congressman was talking about his wife's cancer, and now, in New Jersey, liberal hecklers yelled "shame" when a Republican representative was talking about his dead daughter. Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ) learned the hard way that liberals aren't as empathetic and concerned about healthcare as they'd like the public to believe.
Imagine for one second if the political affiliations of the people in this scenario were reversed. Every major network would be asking psychologists onto their shows to evaluate why conservatives are so rude and hateful. They might start calling "conservatism" itself a psychological condition that targets the weak and vulnerable.
However, because the liberal activists are the ones acting like petulant children -- actually worse -- you probably won't hear about it beyond this blog post. Remember that the people in the room listening to the Congressman speak aren't just randomly selected jerks off the street. They are actual Democrats concerned about a health care solution. Pajama Media has the video of the incident here, where you can see Rep. MacArthur being heckled -- again -- for mentioning his dead daughter.
It's a very sad day when our political differences cause Democrats to see their perceived political enemies in such a bad light that they think this is acceptable.
