In an episode set to air Monday, the first lady gets her groove on in a dance-off with Ellen DeGeneres.
In the preceding interview, Michelle Obama talks up her anti-childhood obesity “Let’s Move!” campaign and the new #GimmeFive challenge, which asks people to list five ways they’re living a healthy lifestyle. The new challenge, Michelle explained, is being backed by celebs, like Beyonce, and includes an official #GimmeFive dance. They ended the segment by challenging each other to a #GimmeFive dance-off.
Before doing some "hip-shaking," Michelle made sure to stress to the audience that she did not have more time to practice than Ellen. The two were joined by a group of dancers and, after a mishap with Michelle’s mic, performed a choreographed dance to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
As The Hill notes, this isn’t the first time Obama has busted out her moves in public. She performed “The Dougie” with Washington middle schoolers back in 2011 and in a 2013 “Late Night” sketch titled “The Evolution of Mom Dancing,” she performed “The Just the Hands Part of Single Ladies.”
