Now YOU Can Take Selfies at the White House Just Like Obama

40-year photo ban lifted

President Obama is no longer the only one that can take selfies inside the White House. With an announcement on Instagram Wednesday, First Lady Michelle Obama ripped up the sign that usually greeted visitors to the White House tour that banned photos and social media.

For the last four decades, the Secret Service have used the ban for security reasons. But now the public is encouraged to take as many photos as they like on their limited tour of the East and West Wings and hashtag them to social media with #WhiteHouseTour.

But don't bring in those selfie sticks, which remain banned; only Obama is allowed to use those. Also, cameras with lenses longer than three inches are not allowed.

Bloomberg spoke with one visitor who was celebrating her birthday with a tour with her husband and children and was surprised to hear the announcement on her special day. “This president has allowed so many more freedoms for our country,” the birthday girl said.
