A video is quickly going viral of a young black man criticizing the notion that all white cops are racist. In the process, he also reminds viewers that not all suspects are innocent victims.
After being pulled over by a white police officer for improper use of a median, Will Stack decided to record a message about the experience. He explained that the officer told him exactly why he was pulled over and asked for his license and registration. Stack said that during the stop, he turned his music down, kept his hands on the steering wheel, and spoke politely. When the officer returned, Stack was sent on his way with only a warning and a short lesson on how to properly use a median.
Stack then gave his thoughts on cops and accusations of racism:
Now, the point of this is to say that I am an African-American male; this gentleman was Caucasian. There were no problems. He did his job, I did what I was supposed to do and that was it.
I feel like people need to understand that not all officers are crooked, not all officers are racist bad people. And not all people who get shot, or tased, or arrested by officers are innocent victims.
Just because you're black doesn't mean you're a victim. Just because you're white doesn't mean you're a racist. Just because you're a cop doesn't mean you're a bad person.
This world really needs to stop putting labels on people and things and see them as who they are: People doing jobs, doing things.
Ignorance has no color. God doesn't see color. Why should we?
Stack, 22, was interviewed on MSNBC Monday and said: "I just wanted to put some positivity out there on social media. You know, not everybody just completely loses faith in humanity."
"I know that there's a lot of social and racial injustice going on in America," he added. "But it's not all bad."
Even Al Sharpton shared the video -- without necessarily endorsing it:
