On Tucker Carlson Tonight Thursday, Attorney Raul Reyes insisted that Americans want to give those who came to the United States illegally as minors permanent American citizenship.
Reyes attempted to bolster his claim, following Carlson’s question of why the citizenry would embrace such a decision. Why would we welcome a foreign populace that is uneducated and therefore unable to provide substantial benefit to society and the economy? Tucker asked:
“[The modern economy] is a digital economy. The majority of Dreamers are now adults, and yet the majority of them, according to government statistics, don’t have high school degrees. Even though they’re adults. So why should I as an American, thinking about our economy — the new economy — why should I be excited about giving permanent residency or citizenship to a bunch of people that don’t have high school degrees? Why would I want that?”
Reyes offered a weak argument, to say the least: he cited statistics, taking the position that, if there are any of nearly one million Dreamers who are educated, that is sufficient reason to grant them all blanket citizenship:
“Some of those statistics are correct. It’s bout 44 percent, I believe, of the Dreamers who have a high school diploma, but then we have another 18 percent who are in college, we have 15 percent who have a college degree, and then we have some others who are aged out. So we have Dreamers who are at all different levels.”
Carlson pressed further:
“No, but those numbers are way below native numbers of native born Americans. I mean, these are way less educated than your average American…Why is that good for us?”
Having no legitimate support for the position of blanket citizenship, Reyes served up circular reasoning — Tucker had asked why we should want it, to which Reyes had essentially indicated that it's good for us; now to the question of why it is good for us, Reyes said because we want it:
“It’s good for us, number one like I said, because it’s what the American people want.”
Tucker couldn’t help but laugh.
Beyond that, Reyes’s most significant reason? “Most importantly, because it’s the law — President Obama created…this deferred action program…Our Congress decided it’s okay for [them] to work.”
Tucker responded with the only thing left to say to the left-wing attorney and his nonsensical argument: “Thank you for joining us.”
