Trayvon Martin's Parents Planning Tell-All Book

They want to "give a full portrait of their son and their grief over the shooting that shocked and divided America."

On Friday, news broke that Trayvon Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, are shopping a book about the highly-publicized death of their son. According to The New York Times, the parents, who were divorced in 1999, were planning to “give a full portrait of their son and their grief over the shooting that shocked and divided America.”

Martin was shot by George Zimmerman; Zimmerman was accused by the press and allies of the Martin family of being a white racist who tracked down and shot Martin, who was black. Zimmerman, who is Hispanic, was acquitted earlier this year of second-degree murder.

Trayvon Martin’s background has largely been whitewashed by the press, which originally showed pictures of the now-17-year-old as a young child in a football uniform, selectively editing Zimmerman’s 911 tape to make him sound racist, and stating that Zimmerman was not injured in his violent altercation with Martin. Evidence suggests that Martin had a history of violence and criminality.

Despite Zimmerman’s acquittal, Trayvon allies have continued to maintain that Martin was racially profiled.
