Schweizer: Stephanopoulos, ABC Still Need to Come Clean

Says network needs to be more open

Clinton Cash author Peter Schweizer says neither ABC News nor their anchor George Stephanopoulos have been fully open about the relationship between the news anchor and the Clinton Foundation. Stephanopoulos has been under fire since it was revealed that he failed to disclose that he has donated at least $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation even while defending the foundation from allegations of wrongdoing on air.

In an interview with Schweizer about the book, Stephanopoulos took an aggressive stance in defending Clinton, something Schweizer in an op-ed for USA Today called "hidden-hand journalism." In the piece, Schweizer points particularly to the time Stephanopoulos has spent working with Clinton Foundation events, something he says is still not fully disclosed to ABC viewers.

I asked ABC News about the fact that this information was yet to be disclosed to ABC viewers, and mostly they avoided my questions, releasing a statement that reads in full, "Yes, George made us aware that he was moderating these panels and that is absolutely within our guidelines. We know that he would be listed as a member — as all moderators are. He is in good company of scores of other journalists that have moderated these panels."

Schweizer condemned the lack of disclosure on these issues as ethical malpractice that is hurting all of journalism.
