Clinton Cash author Peter Schweizer is calling for another interview with ABC now that the networks' newsman George Stephanopoulos admitted to donating $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation and has taken part in various activities for the organization.
An interview on ABC to discuss the findings of Clinton Cash, which have been supported by reporting at the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal, turned into Stephanopolulos defending the Clintons and badgering Schweizer. Stephanopoulos is a former top aid to Bill Clinton and helped run the war room that secured him the Democratic nomination and the presidency in 1992.
Appearing with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Schweizer said the revelations about Stephanopoulos raise a lot of questions about the objectivity of ABC's flagship political program.
"I think what ABC could do is let’s do another interview on the Sunday morning show to talk about the contents of the book. So, we actually get a chance for viewers to hear what is in the book," Schweizer said.
Schweizer said Stephanopoulos' close relationship with the Clintons raises real issues of trust in the media.
"Going into that interview, I kind of assumed that the relationship with the Clintons was in the past. That he had made this transition into the media, and it was a different chapter in his life," Schweizer said. "If this was any other political candidate and a reporter doing this, you can bet that there would be some serious consequences for it."
Stephanopoulos did not disclose his financial relationship with the Clintons or the foundation during any of his coverage of the scandals surrounding questions of funding. So far ABC has said there will be no reprimand for their star.
