On “FOX and Friends” Wednesday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) criticized what he said was President Obama’s disinterest in the border crisis, saying so far “I haven’t even received a phone call from this president” and that if he doesn’t come to the border, “I think it’s a real reflection of his lack of concern of what’s really going on there,”
Perry called for the administration to implement a “surge” on the border to help lower the ongoing criminal activity. Noting that Obama was planning to come to fundraisers in Texas next week, Gov. Perry challenged him to visit the border, saying thus far he had received no contact from the president due to what he believed was a “lack of concern” about the humanitarian crisis his policies had helped create:
As a matter of fact, when we surged, and when I talk about surge, you go into a region and you put the resources in there, we've seen astounding results of lowering the amount of criminal activity that's ongoing. If the president of the United States is really serious about securing that border, we can show him how to do that. But I haven't even had a phone call from this president. He's coming next week. He's coming for a fund-raiser. If he doesn't go to the border, I think it's a real reflection of his lack of concern about what's really going on there.
As Politico reports, Obama is scheduled to be in Austin and Dallas on Wednesday and Thursday for DNC fundraisers.
The unprecedented flood of unaccompanied immigrant minors has already reached over 50,000 this year with an estimation of around 80,000 by year’s end. Perry put the blame for the massive influx and the resulting crisis on the dangerous message the Obama administration has sent to southern countries by its negligent policies:
The real issue, from my perspective, is this message that has come out of this administration for too many years that, "Come on up and cross the border and you can become a United States citizen." That has been, by their actions and probably by their rhetoric, a message that has been sent out.
