Perry: White House Must Address Oklahoma Beheading

"At some point in time, the administration does have to address this as what it appears to many people that it is…”

On “Fox & Friends” Monday, Rick Perry said the Obama administration has to address the beheading of an Oklahoma woman, saying that “it is an act of violence that is associated with terrorism” and dismissing it as a case of “workplace violence” will not sit well with the public.

Perry: I think Americans are confused about what this is. This is a clear case of an individual going in and doing something that does not meet their definition of “workplace violence,” so I think any rational thinking American is going to look at this and go, “This is more than just normal workplace violence." ... At some point in time, the administration does have to address this as what it appears to many people that it is — and that is an act of violence that is associated with terrorism.

Fox’s Steve Doocy connected the attack to the recent videos of beheadings by ISIS militants, to which Perry responded that while the act seems to falls under “that type of activity” we should give authorities time to perform an adequate investigation “to make sure that this is in fact the case.”

During the interview Perry also commented on the “legitimate threat” to the United States posed by ISIS, particularly with an unsecured southern border:

Perry: ISIS is a legitimate threat — it is not just a legitimate threat in that region of the world, it is a legitimate threat in the United States. That is one of the reasons that we sent the National Guard to the border to send a very clear message that that border is going to be secure.
