When President Obama stood before the White House press corps for the last time on Wednesday, he reminded them, “You’re not supposed to be sycophants; you’re supposed to be skeptics.” He then thanked them for holding him accountable for the last eight years — a laughable assertion at best. 

And when he turned the press conference over to final questions, the room filled with drool from the fawning press who must have been too distracted by the president’s awesomeness to hear that whole sycophant thing.

A thick fog of adoration rolled in from one reporter after the next, praising the president for his many LGBT accomplishments (even though he was forced by a Joe Biden gaffe to change his mind and come out in favor of same-sex marriage much later in his presidency), to another reporter who said, “You have expanded the rubber band of inclusion” (Black Lives Matter??). And then there were questions about DREAMers and Israel and, of course, all framed with how President-elect Donald Trump was going to ruin Obama’s legacy.

Then, the one that takes the cake. Obama gave the honor of the last question to one female reporter who held up her phone and told him she still had the same number as if to say, "So, call me maybe?"

“The 217 number still works, so…,” she said pointing to her phone suggestively.

Then stifling her giddiness, the reporter became deadly serious and looked at Obama:

“Thank you, Mr. President. It has been an honor.”

Her question was more personal. She wanted to know how he and Michelle Obama were talking to their daughters about how to handle the discriminations against women, homosexuals, and minorities that are surely coming under President Trump. That’s not verbatim, but it’s the gist.
