On Thursday morning, former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin tweeted that in the aftermath of the second Ft. Hood shooting spree, it was time to allow soldiers to be armed:
Prayers for everyone at Ft. Hood. They defend and protect us. The military must be able to defend themselves with arms.
— Sarah Palin (@SarahPalinUSA) April 3, 2014 Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) has expressed similar sentiments. The shooter was at large for 15-20 minutes after shooting began, and was only stopped by a military policewoman wielding a handgun. After their confrontation, the shooter committed suicide.
