During a visit in Dallas, Texas yesterday, Obama explained that he would not be visiting the border because it would be a "photo-op."
"There's nothing that is taking place down there that I am not intimately aware of or briefed on,"
"This isn't theater. This is a problem," he added. "I'm not interested in photo ops, I'm interested in solving a problem."
The President went on to ask the Congress to "fast track" his request for $3.8M to address the humanitarian crisis at the U.S.-Texas Border. The press conference was "hastily arranged" after Texas Governor Rick Perry criticized the President for spending two days in Texas fundraising without scheduling a visit to the border. Obama spent 15 minutes with the Governor before he moved along, presumably to get to his fundraising events.
Obama stated that his solutions for the problem is the legislation he has given to Congress. "Those who say I should visit the border, when you ask them what we should be doing, they're giving suggestions that are embodied in legislation I've already sent to Congress," Obama said.
