On CBS This Morning, hosts Norah O’Donnell and Charlie Rose asked NYT Executive Editor Jill Abramson to comment on journalist David Sanger’s recent remark that the Obama administration is “the most closed, control-freak administration I have ever covered.”
Abramson responded that “it has been really difficult,” noting that President Obama has launched seven criminal investigations into leaks to the press since taking office.
“So you’re saying the Obama administration is worse than the Bush administration,” asks a stunned Charlie Rose.
“It’s demonstrable,” replies Abramson, “because these seven leak investigations are more than double all of the criminal leak investigations in all administrations before the Obama administration. And it puts a chill on what is really a healthy discourse between journalists and their sources.”
