NYT: Christie Can’t Bring Himself to Watch Springsteen Bridgegate Parody

"Born to Run"?

Over the weekend, The New York Times published a Chris Christie state-of-the-crumbling-empire piece, portraying him as a desperate man in personal and political crisis, scrambling to rethink his leadership approach, restructure his team, and repackage his public persona, while those who once looked to him as a vital political advocate, now view him as an unwelcome “distraction.”

He’s so shaken, in fact, he can’t even bring himself to watch Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for a little comic relief:

The governor could not bring himself to watch the traffic jam-themed parody of “Born to Run” sung by his idol, Bruce Springsteen, on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” though he was told by his college-age son, Andrew, that it was funny.

As a courtesy Fallon gave Christie a heads-up on the parody, but apparently it wasn’t enough to make it palatable to the embattled governor.

One person who did watch it though was Rush Limbaugh, who called Springsteen “a low-rent character” for the move, adding,

You are only a friend of a Democrat for as long as they can use you.
