NYC Transit Giving Announcement Systems Gender-Neutral Makeover

No more “ladies and gentlemen.”

A very small percentage of passengers of New York City transit lines are about to get more comfortable with their rides as the announcement system is going gender-neutral.

According to The Washington Examiner:

NYC Transit staffers have been instructed to immediately replace the phrase “ladies and gentleman” in all announcements with non-gendered words such as "passengers," "riders," and "everyone.”

“Please don’t use any greeting other than these,” the memo stated. Workers were also warned that line managers and supervisors would be monitoring to ensure the new genderless protocol is followed.

A station worker and transportation union member said, “They are trying to be politically correct. They are acknowledging that they have some transgender riders. They don’t want to offend anyone.”

But to hell with the remaining 99% who still identify as ladies or gentlemen.
