We love it when the Left eats its own. On Wednesday, it was bon apetit family style, as MSNBC’s MTP Daily tore into notorious ambulance chaser Gloria Allred.
The feast on feminist Allred was due to her representing Beverly Young Nelson, accuser of Alabama Republican senatorial candidate Roy Moore. Young has charged that Moore assaulted her in a parked car when he was District Attorney of Etowah County and she was a waitress at a local restaurant. The alleged incident occurred 40 years ago, when she was 16 and he was in this thirties. Moore has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, saying, “I never did what she said I did…I don’t even know the woman. I don’t know anything about her.” Moore’s attorney, along with Alabama Republicans, held a press conference Wednesday in support of Moore and in an attempt to discredit Young's claims.
Given Moore’s emphatic denial and Allred’s less-than-stellar reputation as a money-grubbing glutton for attention, the MPT Daily gang feared the case could tarnish other accusations of sexual misbehavior by Moore. Subsequently, they went after Allred. Taking a "guilty until proven innocent" stance against the Republican, host Chuck Todd stated:
“Look, they want to focus on Gloria Allred’s accuser. Which, politically I understand. Gloria Allred has got a reputation for basically: ‘Oh, there's cameras over there? Let me see if I can find a client and go do that.’ I'll tell you, if she's faked this or this is a fraud accusation, you're really doing a disservice to the four women who clearly weren't comfortable speaking out and wanted to.”
New York Times politics and social justice reporter, Yamiche Alcindor, referenced her own work, noting the importance in journalism of “bullet-proof” claims of sexual misconduct. “Which is why,” she said, “if Gloria Allred has somebody that's fraudulent, it completely taints what these other people have said. It completely gives a talking point to other people to say this is a war on the media.” She mourned, "And it really means it's helping Roy Moore."
Left-wing Todd lamented Allred’s corruptive presence as an attack point for conservative Moore’s camp in their denial of the claims against him:
“It’s also feeding into the same narrative that many women say has taken place for years. This is what happens. Victims get attacked, and that's why they don't speak out.”
Nevermind consideration of whether the accusations against Moore were actually true; these were MSNBC leftists, hoping to see Republicans lose an election. In fact, Alcindor, referring to The Washington Post's breaking of the Young story, said energetically, "They may have had way more women; who knows?"
Continuing to tear down Allred, Danielle Pletka -- the show's lone conservative guest -- ripped into the lawyer's entire career:
“But does this surprise anybody that Gloria Allred would be involved in something that would be unscrupulous, that would be camera-hungry, that would not have been fact-checked, and that could undermine the entire question? It doesn't surprise me in the least, having watched her career.”
Maria Teresa Kumar, CEO of the left-wing Voto Latino, further attacked Allred for potentially lessening the case against Moore, adding the bizarre conspiratorial assertion that Allred may be a right-wing plant:
“No. No. I don't disagree with any of that…Our politics and conversations are becoming more Machiavellian…'Is she a plant,' right? She could easily be a plant...What they just did is create doubt on one case. That taints everything.”
Heaven forbid there be any doubt -- facts be damned -- when it comes to a Republican being accused of impropriety. If it’s a Democrat, of course, that’s a different story entirely. But with precious Senate seats at risk of being taken by Republicans, those in the left-wing media will devour whoever they must, in order to attain their political victory. If fellow leftist Gloria Allred is on the menu, then dig in!
