In a new Bloomberg Iowa poll that MSNBC’s Morning Joe found “shocking,” Mitt Romney had a one point lead in a head-to-head matchup with Hillary Clinton. Apart from Clinton’s “pretty remarkable” drop in popularity and the key purple state, the other major question Morning Joe raises is if Romney should really consider running.

The poll found not only that Romney was ahead of Clinton, but that her other possible opponents had closed the gap significantly. Paul Ryan only trailed Clinton by one, while Clinton was just three points ahead of Rand Paul. She held a better lead over both Chris Christie and Jeb Bush, but still only managed a five-point gap.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski pointed out that Hillary has a history of struggling in Iowa:

Brzezinski: Iowa has not always been kind to Clinton. She limped into third place in Iowa during the presidential race in 2008.

Co-host Joe Scarborough noted Clinton’s stunning collapse in popular support, adding that maybe it’s time Romney started seriously considering a 2016 run:

Scarborough: It’s pretty remarkable that Hillary Clinton over the past three, four, five, six months has dropped as much as she had. […] Mitt Romney has one more to listen to all of those advisers and all of those contributors who are now begging him to get into this race.
