On Fox News' “America’s News HQ” Sunday, Lt. Governor Peter Kinder (R-MO) pulled no punches with his critique of Eric Holder's handling of the tensions in Ferguson, saying that the attorney general “seemed on many occasions to be inciting the mob” and consistently put his weight "on one side of the scales of justice."
Kinder has been a vocal critic of Holder and the Justice Department since it first involved itself with Ferguson. Kinder's latest comments came in response to Holder's condemnation of the recent attack on police officers that left two with "serious" gunshot wounds.
KINDER: He is sounding the right notes today, this afternoon. I just wish he had been more judicious and more measured in his comments and his pronouncement since the 9th of August. Because Mr. Holder came in and seemed on many occasions to be inciting the mob. He seemed to be putting his weight on the one side of the scales of justice and not backing up law enforcement. And if he is now in, you know, backing up law enforcement mode, then I will be among those cheering him. And I hope that’s the way he is from now on.
When Kinder was asked if Holder ever met with him, he said no, and pointed out that Holder only met with those on the side of the protestors and failed to show solidarity with law enforcement:
KINDER: No, no, no, he doesn’t deign to speak with people like me. He comes into town and meets with one side. He met with the family of Michael Brown, and that’s fine that he met with them. But, he did not meet with the family of officer Darren Wilson or with his brother and sister officers to say I’m backing you up.
Sunday, St Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced that the suspect for the shooting had been arrested. The suspect, Jeffrey Williams, 20, is being charged with two counts of assault in the first degree, firing a weapon from a vehicle (a class B felony in Missouri), and three counts of armed criminal action. Williams claims that he was not aiming at police but at another man with whom he was having a dispute.
In response to a question about whether Williams was a protestor, McCulloch said that Williams was in fact a demonstrator, adding, "he was out there earlier that evening as part of the demonstration, he's been out there on other occasions as part of the demonstrations."
