Bernie Sanders announced to a crowd in Burlington, Vermont, this week the formation of a new group called Our Revolution that would continue his "historic" movement and have an impact on the election. The goal, he said, is to back “over a hundred candidates” and “seven key ballot initiatives” in order to move the political dial farther left.
As Mediaite reports, The Young Turks' host and anger management failure Cenk Uygur felt that this announcement was criminally underreported, so he covered it himself for his handful of viewers:
Sanders proclaimed that his "revolution" means nothing less than "the transformation of our country into a society in which we will not continue to have a handful of billionaires control our political or media life."
"Hear, hear, brother!" exclaimed Uygur in agreement. "Let's do the revolution together!"
No, thanks. Obama's presidency was more than enough fundamental transformation for us.
The New York Times had this to say in response to Sanders' statement:
The announcement of the group, which was live streamed on Wednesday night, also came as a majority of its staff resigned after the appointment last Monday of Jeff Weaver, Mr. Sanders’s former campaign manager, to lead the organization.
Several people familiar with the organization said eight core staff members had stepped down. The group’s entire organizing department quit this week, along with people working in digital and data positions.
So the group is off to a roaring start.
