Michelle O Hopes to Be As ‘Gracious’ to Melania as Laura Bush Was to Her

“I’m not new in this ‘going high’ thing…”

On Monday evening, First Lady Michelle Obama sat down with Oprah Winfrey and the two discussed many things, including how Michelle believes there’s no more hope in America, and the Trump transition into the White House.

In her message to incoming First Lady Melania Trump, Mrs. Obama said she hopes to be as “gracious” to Donald Trump’s wife as Laura Bush was to her when she was transitioning in 2008:

“My offer to help Melania was, you know, you really don’t know what you don’t know until you’re here. So, the door is open, as I’ve told her and as Laura Bush told me, and as other first ladies told me.”

“So, I’m not new in this ‘going high’ thing,” Obama said, referring to her oft-repeated claim that Democrats always take the high road. “I mean, I’m modeling what was done for me by the Bushes, and Laura Bush was nothing but gracious.”

There was strong reaction on Twitter, hashtagged with #OprahandFLOTUS, by both those swooning over the CBS interview and those who took issue with a first lady who admitted to not being proud of her country:
