Liberal Sen. Elizabeth Warren is the current media darling, filling the shoes of failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The mainstream media are still playing the “Hillary was defeated by sexism” card, but are now applying it preemptively to Warren, whom they’d love to see run against Donald Trump in 2020.
On CBS News Sunday Morning, Warren was interviewed by Chip Reid who was relentless in prompting her to dish on Republican leadership he claims treated her badly during her filibuster of then-Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions.
“Do you think there was some sexism involved here?” Reid probed. “Do you think they treated male Senators differently than you?"
In his piece, Reid fawned: “Republicans voted to silence Warren for impugning the character of Trump's attorney general nominee, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions… Warren was reading a 1986 letter from the widow of Martin Luther King Jr. that criticized Sessions. Once silenced, she kept right on reading outside the Senate chamber."
However, that same letter was later read by four male Senators, thus Reid’s accusation of “sexism.” However, as Newsbusters notes, Reid completely left out how Warren has repeatedly spoken out of line in the Senate.
Though she didn’t outright admit it, Warren relented to Reid’s prompt, saying, “All I can say is, the next day, four men stood up and read exactly the same letter, and they all got to finish."
This set up Reid’s next objective: see if the senator is thinking about the next presidential election. He called her “the de facto leader of the Trump resistance” and said it made “logical sense” for her to be his opposition in four years. Warren said she wasn’t thinking that far ahead each time Reid baited the hook.
But Reid isn’t alone in his desire for Warren to do what Clinton couldn’t. MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell should’ve been wearing a “Run, Liz, Run” shirt during her program on Monday. Newsbusters has the story:
On her 12 p.m. ET hour MSNBC show on Monday, anchor Andrea Mitchell and USA Today’s Susan Page were positively giddy about the prospect of Senator Elizabeth Warren running for president in 2020. Promoting an interview she just conducted with the Democrat, Page excitedly recalled: “I asked if she was going to promise Massachusetts voters that she would serve all six years of her second Senate term. And she said, ‘Well, that's certainly the plan.’ That is not exactly a denial of interest in the 2020 presidential race.”
Mitchell enthusiastically chimed in: “At all. And she’s 67 years old. She is plenty young enough compared to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton to run four years from now.” Page gushed: “Yeah, she is. And she's got, of course, a huge base of support among liberals in the Democratic Party who feel like if only she or Bernie Sanders had been nominated last time around, they believe they would have had a better chance of defeating the kind of campaign that Donald Trump ran.”
Both Mitchell and Page continued lobbing the love on Warren back and forth, comparing her to Barack Obama and heralding her as “a fearless champion of progressive causes against the charging bull that is President Trump.”
The MSM wants this badly and since they don’t have the race card they played with Obama, the sexist card will do.
