Discussing former Bush Administration Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld with documentarian Errol Morris on Hardball, Chris Matthews remarked that Rumsfeld looked like a "car bomber." Morris made the documentary The Unknown Known, which revolves around Rumsfeld's career from his life as a young congressman in the 1960's to his planning of the invasion of Iraq. 

Matthews shouted that he found the documentary long and "mystifying" before saying:

Yet it is the Donald Rumsfeld I've always known. That fey, sort of eccentric, sort of whimsical face of his that I swear has sort of the look of a car bomber. Because the smile about the most serious horrible things! 

Matthews asked Morris if Rumsfeld knew what he was talking about "morally" and when the director answered "No," Matthews laughed and then continued;

How did he get... Is that why Dick Cheney liked him?  Because he was such a tool that he really didn't stop and say wait a minute...
