Man Dies Peacefully Upon Hearing Fake News of Trump's Impeachment

Ignorance is bliss.

The age-old adage "ignorance is bliss" was confirmed recently when a 75-year-old man's ex-wife lied to him on his deathbed by making up a story that President Trump had been impeached. This apparently paved the way for the man's peaceful transition into the afterlife.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Michael Garland Elliott's ex-wife Teresa, his "best friend" at the time of his passing, described the end. “I knew it was his very, very last moments,” she said. She decided to give him some good, albeit fake, news to see him out of this world, because "he hated [Trump's] effing guts."

The Oregonian obituary has more:

Mike ran out of family long ago and is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Teresa Elliott. Though their marriage ran aground, their friendship only grew stronger and hers was the last voice Mike heard. And the last thing she said to him was 'Donald Trump has been impeached.' Upon hearing that he took his final, gentle breath, his earthly work concluded.

“I knew that would bring him comfort and it did," she said.

Teresa Elliott does not regret lying to the dying man, who, depending on his faith, knows the truth of the matter by now anyway. “If I could leave him with a happy piece of news then why wouldn’t I?” she said. “And maybe in the end it won't turn out to be a lie.”
