The Left loves to paint itself as the sole political paragon of virtue. But on Sunday, stranded Atlanta air passengers were reminded that compassion is a conservative value.
Just before noon, the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport was struck by a severe electrical blackout caused by an underground fire. The result was the crippling of a major U.S. airport — over a thousand flights were canceled. During the chaos, who came to the need of thousands of passengers? The National Organization for Women? The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation? Obama? Hillary? No — it was the family-values-supporting, all-American recipient of vitriolic left-wing hate: College Park, Georgia’s own Chick-fil-A.
On Sunday night, Kasim Reed — mayor of Atlanta — thanked the restaurant via a tweet for providing over 2,000 meals to stranded and weary Christmastime travelers:
“Update: Power has been restored to Concourses A, B, F, T and the @ATLairport atrium. We have provided 2,000 meals so far. Special thank you to Dan Cathy and @ChickfilA for their support. #atlairport"
Normally, Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays due to founder Truett Cathy’s reverence for a day of rest and worship. But in the midst of great need, the Christian organization was there to help. An official tweet from the airport read:
“LIGHTS ON and delivering food and water to our passengers! Thank you @dancathy with @ChickfilA for opening on a SUNDAY! #ChristmasMiracle"
Chick-fil-A isn’t alone in its generosity — according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, which uses IRS data to track patterns of charity in the U.S. — conservatives give a higher percentage of their earnings than do those on the left side of the aisle. This has also been pointed out even by The New York Times, in their article “Bleeding-Heart Tightwads.”
Despite the Left's disparagement of conservatives as hateful bigots, those on the Right know the truth: conservatives believe in America, believe in Americans, and believe in helping their fellow Americans in times of need.
