Here's a dubious distinction. President Trump has had more late-night jokes made about him in the first 100 days pf his Presidency than any other recent president’s entire first year.
George Mason University’s Center for Media and Public Affairs did a study on all of the opening monologues of the late-night comedians and discovered there were 1,060 jokes targeting Trump in his first 100 days. During their first years, Barack Obama received 936; George W. Bush received 546; and Bill Clinton received 440.
That's a big discrepancy. Of those 1,060 jokes, Stephen Colbert told 337, Trevor Noah told 315, Jimmy Fallon told 231, and Jimmy Kimmel told 177. Here are some other takeaways from the study, according to Deadline:
-Trump “is on track to easily eclipse” previous record-holder Bill Clinton, who had 1,717 jokes told about him in 1998, when the Monica Lewinsky scandal dominated the news. Clinton’s tally was higher than any other individual tracked by CMPA from 1992 through 2012.
-The amount of Trump jokes nearly tripled the combined 385 joke total of all Democratic politicians (95) and non-administration Republican politicians (290).
-Trump’s family members were the butts of an additional 97 jokes, more than all Democrats combined. When the Trump family jokes are combined with the 373 jokes that were directed toward other members of his administration, the Trump-related joke total rises to 1,530.
Every American with a television set knows that many of these so-called jokes are really just thinly disguised diatribes. Here's an idea: maybe next time they can do a study on how many of these jokes were actually funny.
