Chris Kennedy, the son of the late Bobby Kennedy and nephew of JFK, claims that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is forcing black people out of the city as part of a “strategic gentrification plan.”
Kennedy is a Democrat and is running for Illinois governor and made the accusations at a recent news conference in Chicago. The mayor, he said, is trying to make the city “richer and whiter:”
"I believe that black people are being pushed out of Chicago intentionally by a strategy that involves disinvestment in communities being implemented by the city administration, and I believe Rahm Emanuel is the head of the city administration and therefore needs to be held responsible for those outcomes.”
Kennedy doubled down on Twitter:
Kennedy’s claims that the city is “becoming smaller and… whiter” have some truth to them and evidence suggests it’s gotten worse under Emanuel. The Chicago Tribune reports that the black population has been on the decline since 2000. In the year before Emanuel became mayor, the black population was at 33.2 percent. It’s now down to 29.3 percent.
“This is involuntary. That we’re cutting off funding for schools, cutting off funding for police, allowing people to be forced to live in food deserts, closing hospitals, closing access to mental health facilities. What choice do people have but to move, to leave?” asked Kennedy.
And what was Emanuel’s response? He somehow found a way to blame President Trump. A spokesman for his office said:
“It’s sad to see Chris Kennedy joining President Trump and Gov. Rauner in using cynical, politically motivated attacks about Chicago’s communities for his own personal gain. His divisive comments today are a direct assault on one of this city’s greatest strengths — our diversity.”
But some believe Kennedy’s comments needed to be said:

Of course, these Democrats are ignoring the elephant in the room. The real enemy of blacks in Chicago is the criminal element among other blacks:
