On Thursday, Rev. Jesse Jackson responded to Rep. Darrell Issa’s (R-CA) decision to cut off the microphone of ranting Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) by denouncing Issa as a racist:
Congressman Darrell Issa's behavior was crude, wrong, racist and mean towards Congressman Elijah Cummings. Do you agree?
— Rev Jesse Jackson Sr (@RevJJackson) March 6, 2014 This is no shock coming from Jackson. But Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, made similar accusations, suggesting that Issa’s move was similar to the aggression of Russia in Ukraine and of the Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro. She stated:
In the last couple of weeks, in which we have been, on both sides of the aisle, standing up for the rights of the oppressed, trying to make sure that in Venezuela, that dictators there aren’t shutting down the opposition, the same thing in the Ukraine, at the same time, you have a chairman of the government oversight committee literally electronically cutting off the mic of the opposition to prevent him from having any say or participation in the hearing.
