When Jeb! Bush wanted to take down Marco Rubio in the last Republican debate he questioned how often the junior senator for Florida showed up for work and asked whether he was working a "French" work week. Well, this week Bush was apologizing - not to Rubio but to the French, people who will not even be voting for the next president.
Time reports that Bush made the comments aboard his campaign bus:
“I made the mistake of saying that the Congress operates on a French work week—I really did a disservice to the French,” Bush said with a chuckle Tuesday.
“My inbox was full of French journalists,” piped up campaign spokesman Tim Miller.
As if that were not enough, Jeb! went on:
“I now know that the average French work week is actually greater than the German work week,” Bush continued. “So, my God, I totally insulted an entire country—our first ally—that helped us become free as a nation! And I apologize. That did a huge disservice to France. It didn’t really get to the magnitude of the problem: Three day work week.”
Bush, the one presumed frontrunner, has had trouble gaining traction over the last few months as outsiders like Donald Trump and Ben Carson have taken the lead in polls while upstarts like Rubio and Texas Senator Ted Cruz have been nipping at Bush's heels from the other side.
