Heat Street sent one of its writers, Stephen Miller, to troll the "women only" screening of the new film Wonder Woman, and it generated more than a few chuckles on social media.
Though the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Brooklyn, New York, had scheduled an estrogen-soaked screening of the first live-action adaptation of DC's most iconic superhero since the 1970's, Miller thought he'd inject a little testosterone into the mix by buying a ticket and crashing the show. You know where this is going.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema promoted the event with much talk of "girl power," complete with an all-female staff servicing the event. Exceptions were made of course for men "who identify as women."
The most iconic superheroine in comic book history finally has her own movie, and what better way to celebrate than with an all-female screening?
Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying “No Guys Allowed” for one special night at the Alamo Ritz. And when we say “People Who Identify As Women Only,” we mean it. Everyone working at this screening -- venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team -- will be female.
So lasso your geeky girlfriends together and grab your tickets to this celebration of one of the most enduring and inspiring characters ever created.
Cue Stephen Miller's golden lariat of trolling:
Naturally, various left-wing outlets were outraged that Miller would crash the feminist party. A.V. Club called him an "adult boy" and "insecure piece of sh–t," while IndieWire mocked Miller for this "great injustice."
