Instead of updating their viewers on a major geopolitical conflict which had been dominating hews in recent weeks, both ABC's World News Tonight and NBC's Nightly News with Brian Williams did run extended packages on the ALS Ice Bucket challenge which has gone viral on social media, and both showed footage of the Kennedy clan dumping ice water on their heads.
