Unearthed video proves Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) was against impeachment before she was for it.

Waters is a leading voice in the impeach President Trump movement even though she tried to deny she ever called for it. A lie, to be sure. But back in 1998, Waters was wholeheartedly against the impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton, calling it a “Republican coup d’état:” 

“Bill and Hillary Clinton are the real targets and the Republicans are the vehicles being used by the right-wing Christian Coalition extremists to direct and control our culture. The rule of law has been violated… President Clinton is not guilty of the trumped-up charges presented in these four articles of impeachment. Yes, Bill Clinton is guilty of certain indiscretions in his private life. However, he did not commit high crimes and misdemeanors.

“Rather, the president is guilty of being a populist leader who opened up government and access to the poor, to minorities, to women, and to the working class. President Clinton is guilty of not being owned by the good old southern boys or the good old eastern establishment…

“I am greatly disappointed in the raw, unmasked, unbridled hatred, and meanness that drives this impeachment coup d’état — the unapologetic disregard for the voice of the people.”

In C-SPAN video from ’98 (below), Waters further railed against the GOP and called their arguments for impeachment “flaky” and “paltry,” but warned that the Democrats would indeed engage in “a nasty debate… about sex… that the American public may not necessarily want to hear” because they’d been “thrust” into it by Republicans.
