Eric Erickson Explains His Decision to Dump Trump

Explains case on Fox News

"I think it was the absolute right thing," Eric Erickson said on Fox News on Monday afternoon.

Erickson was explaining to host Neil Cavuto his decision to boot Donald Trump from this past weekend's RedState event that saw several GOP presidential candidates make a pitch to voters. Erickson made the decision to rescind Trump's invitation to the Atlanta event after Trump made what many suspected was a crude insult to Fox host Megyn Kelly, who grilled him during the recent Republican presidential debates. "She was bleeding from her eyes," Trump had said, "bleeding from... wherever."

Cavuto pushed Erickson about his decision but Erickson stood his ground.

"Members of the campaign, first, they didn't want to acknowledge that he said what he said. Then they said he said 'whatever' and not 'wherever' and clearly on the tape he said 'wherever,' and I couldn't get a straight answer, so I thought I should disinvite him from the event," Erickson said.

Erickson denied he was in the anti-Trump campaign, pointing out that he has said in the past that Republicans need to take Trump seriously and not as a sideshow. But Erickson said Trump needs to get a thicker skin:

"If Donald Trump can't take a tough question from Megyn Kelly without insulting her, how can he take a tough question from Vladimir Putin?"

Asked by Cavuto about his own comments about women such as calling NOW, the National Organization of Women, the "National Organization of Gals," Erickson replied that he was needling the other side and pointed out that, unlike Trump, he is not running for president.
