Elton John Thinks Trump Presidency Would Somehow Spread AIDS

Talk about fear-mongering.

In an interview with Mic, songwriting legend Elton John said he will "fear for the world" succumbing to an AIDS epidemic if Donald Trump is elected president.

"I fear for the world, globally, with the AIDS situation ... [if] Donald Trump gets to be president," John said. "He'll marginalize people. He's already doing it."

John was recently in South Africa attending the 21st International AIDS conference. While there, he announced a $10 million fund from his own foundation, along with the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), to "address stigma, discrimination and violence" among the LGBT community, and to help finance care and prevention for HIV/AIDS.

"If you are in a country where it's illegal to be gay and they're withholding your medicine because you're gay, we will get them the medicine," John said. "If you're in prison or you're incarcerated for being gay, we will get you legal help — we will get you out of prison."

But apparently a President Trump would put gay people back to pre-Obama times and help AIDS to spread rapidly, even though he has promised to continue funding PEPFAR.

"I believe so strongly in that and we're going to lead the way," Trump has said.

Yet, critics fear his promise of repealing Obamacare would remove care from HIV/AIDS patients.

John also had words for Trump's running mate, questioning his professed Christian faith:

"I don't see any Christian act in him — you're not a Christian in a million years. You're probably the furthest thing away from Christianity there is."

On the Trump/Pence ticket, John didn't mince words, saying, "They're insane, basically — in a nutshell, they're insane. Let's cut to the quick here."

Adding his non-scientific opinion to the debate was John's husband, David Furnish, who blamed the spread of AIDS on being persecuted rather than behavior:

"Pushing people away contributes to people's shame. It also makes them feel less likely to seek information about sexual health, less likely to have a dialogue with their doctor about their medication, less likely to feel confident and comfortable picking their medication up.

"It takes everything and just pushes it into the shadows — and that's where this disease thrives. It thrives on the disenfranchised. It thrives on the marginalized."

Get it? Trump will marginalize gay people and thus, AIDS spreads.

The science is settled.
