Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow that his and other Democrats' role on the Select Committee on Benghazi will be to “scream bloody murder” about Republicans' behavior and expose the proceedings as a “sham.”
You'll recall that when the committee was first announced, Schiff petitioned Democrats to not participate in any way with the investigation. Now that Democratic leadership in the House has reversed that strategy and named five partisan members to the committee (including Schiff) he believes his role is to attack his colleagues on the other side of the aisle, rather than to try to get to the truth of what happened on September 11, 2012.
After claiming Republicans were merely using the hearings to create a confrontation with the Administration over subpoenas and executive privilege, Schiff told Maddow:
"You can expect that if we are denied that kind of due process in this select committee that we are going to be very vocal about it and we are going to scream bloody murder about that. and we're going to let the American people know that this is a sham."
It's too bad Maddow didn't take the opportunity to point out that it was the victims of the terror attacks the evening of September 11th in Benghazi who were "screaming bloody murder," and perhaps his choice of words were not the wisest.
